CUIL Search Engine Homepage
There is a new search engine on the internet which has attracted a lot of attention from the web community, it’s called Cuil.
Cuil was co-founded and has been developed by Ex-Google Developer, Tom Costello. Tom Costello is an Irish born academic and businessmen who was previously the Technical Lead at the popular search engine Google
The site boasts to index 120 Trillion pages, more than Google (up to three times more), Yahoo or MSN (up to 10 times more).
What’s more, the site currently displays no advertising and puts it’s user’s privacy first. The privacy policy claims not to store any logs about user’s data, and it doesn’t store any cookie data from CUIL on your website, rather it uses your browser’s default settings to detirmine your language and other preferences.
The search results seem quite relevant, and results are presented in 3 columns of captions containing brief data about the site.
The search results also feature categories allowing you to narrow down your search to fine related data, a feature uncommon in most existing search engines.
The design and colour of the page is less conventional compared to the other search engines, runs extremely fast, retrieves relevant results.
The term Cuil, according to the website’s “about page” is an Irish word for Knowledge.
In the ever-changing web space, it will be interesting to see how this new search engine compares against it’s multi-billion dollar peers.
